GRAND KNIGHTS REPORT

The next three months are going to be very busy and very important to our church and our council. We have probably more activities scheduled than at any other time of the year. March kicks off with a pancake breakfast, fish and pasta dinners, fraternal benefits night, business meeting, and ends with a First Degree. Then in April we once again have a pancake breakfast, Friday dinners, a special building fund meeting, rosary service during holy week, and end with a business meeting. No rest for the wicked in May as we kick off two race weekends at the speedway. Try to help out as much as you can.

Let's Go Racing

Gentlemen start your engines! We are about to kickoff the Lowe's Motor Speedway May fund raiser. We'll be recruiting bus drivers for Friday May 16th through Sunday May 25th. Please mark your calendars and save us a few days of your time. Dave Smith will head up the program, aided by Ed Kane, Phil Reilly, and Ken Fusaro.

St. Patrick's Day Update

The board met and decided to cancel the St. Patrick's Day Dinner this year since we will be cooking fish every Friday during lent. To try and have two events on subsequent days was thought to be just too much to ask of the members that work in the kitchen.

Treasurer's Report

Our treasurer, Noel Nadol, reports we have $13,965.28 in our checking account and $29,429.24 in the building fund. Roughly half the money in the checking account is earmarked for the coupon book project.

A Helping Chair

Ed Kane is heading up the emergency chair committee. He has asked for volunteers to get in touch with him. Setting up chairs on an emergency basis for the church Is good public relations and will give the Knights some consideration in use of the new multipurpose room.

Council Nominations

The Board of Directors is excepting nominations next year's council officers. If you'd like to nominate someone or are willing to serve please contact Dave Smith, Ed Kane, Steve Wise, Noel Nadol, Will Companga, or Paul Cunningham.

Pancake Breakfast News

Sunday Pancake Breakfast is scheduled for after the 8:30 Mass March 2nd. It's turning into a terrific fund raising event, and a lot of fun. Come and help Leigh Bullin and the cooking crew or just come and eat.

Dinner And A Movie

Lenten Friday Fish / Pasta Dinners and a Movie start 5:30 Friday March 7th. The plan is to have dinner followed by Stations of the Cross and then a Family Movie in the Parish Life Center. We'll be working in conjunction with Faith Formation in this joint fund raiser. John Bigliardi is heading up the Kitchen Crew. 

The movie program will be presented by Tim Vogel. The movie is the Dreamworks animated feature "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron". For more details on the movie visit www.attractionsusa.com

Adventure Book Wrap-up

The Adventure Books fund raiser has been a success, but now we want to close out the project. Please turn in any unsold books or money to Ed Kane. We hope to have a final report on the project at the next business meeting.

Scholarship Program Moving Forward

Matt Reilly is heading up the Scholarship committee. They are working on policies and procedures and hope to have recommendations by our next business meeting. If you'd like to stick your two cents in, give Matt a call.

Insurance Knight

The topic for our social meeting next month will be Fraternal Benefits. Dave Wellmon will be our guest speaker and we are opening the meeting to wives and prospective members. Dave is a wonderful speaker and he will surprise you with some things you didn’t know about life insurance and the Knights. This is a MUST for anyone with insurance questions.

Let's Shoot Hoops

Thanks to Bill Muccio for starting up a youth basketball program on Tuesday nights. Matt Reilly looked into supplemental insurance for the council to cover this type of activity but said it's price prohibitive. The best way to handle it is to get a waiver from everyone. Bill also won a $50 gift certificate to Kudzu in the council raffle.

Special Meeting Announcement

We're planning a special meeting to discuss the Knights Building Fund 7:30 Monday April 7th. Potential topics include but are not limited to 1) How much we should be setting aside, 2) What we should be using the money for, 3) Estimated costs for a facility, and 4) How long before this can be discussed again. After all the issues are hashed out, we hope to come back to the business meeting 7:30 Monday April 28th with a proposal that everyone can live with. Please make a point of attending both meetings and sharing your views.
