If we took these examples and implemented them, we would be even
more active within the parish and community. We are mid-way through the season
of Lent. As we enter the season of spring let us look forward to the Easter
season with a renewed spirit of commitment. As you will see, we have
accomplished a lot, we are accomplishing a lot, but there is still a lot to be
accomplished.
Vivat Jesus
Ed Kane Grand Knight
What did you think of the new layout for the newsletter? I have
heard nothing but rave reviews. I want to take this opportunity to thank Tim
Vogel for all the work he puts in every month to ensure we have a quality
product. Now with color and pictures, we have arrived in the twenty-first
century.
BINGO:
Chairman Tim Vogel held his first official meeting with several members in
attendance. After establishing the areas of most concern, several sub-committees
were set up. Manpower is certainly at the top of the list. Many members have
expressed interest in helping out. This is going to be a major commitment.
Basically, “WE NEED YOUR HELP.” The council will be extending an invitation to
the members of the parish to help. Team captains have been identified, and will
be asked to sit on an executive board to help develop the protocols and
administrative functions that will be required to have an efficient operation.
Equipment was discussed, and it was recommended that when purchases are
required, we should actively look for good quality “PRE-OWNED” equipment prior
to just going out and buying new. Quality and serviceability is a priority, and
will not be sacrificed. Several members of the committee visited St. John
Neumann on Friday, March 19, and observed their Bingo operation. Several visits
are being planned in the near future to other Bingo sites. Remember our
operation is scheduled to start in July, but may have to be put off until
August. Please, get involved.

BLOOD
DRIVE:
The date was Saturday, March 13. Chairman Jim Hepler and his committee were
there, the American Red Cross was there, and so were 40 donors. Unfortunately,
four of the donors were turned away for one reason or another. The drive was
successful. Thirty-six pints of blood. Thanks to all the council members who
showed up to work and/or donate blood. For his first time as chairman, Jim did a
great job. Our goal was forty pints. Remember we have two blood drives left for
this calendar year, June 5 and October 23.
MAY
RACE:
Well, the long awaited meeting with the representatives of Lowe’s Motor Speedway
took place as scheduled. It was a good give and take meeting. There will be a
lot of changes, but we feel they will all be to our advantage. Tom Joy and Matt
Reilly are setting things in motion. You will be contacted shortly regarding
your availability. What’s this I am hearing about tram directors? Could this be
an opportunity for those of you who cannot drive? You better believe it!
ST.
PATRICK’S DAY DINNER
I waited to write this newsletter so that I could report on the St. Patrick’s
Day Dinner, and all I can say is wow! It was great! If you weren’t there, you
missed a great time. If you were there, you know what I mean. Absolutely great
food, music, a sense of togetherness and community prevailed throughout the
evening.
The entire committee worked hard so that the event could have only been a great
success. We knew right from the beginning how successful the event was going to
be when twenty members showed up at eight o’clock on a Saturday morning for
setting up the room and preparing the food.
The decorations and tablecloths gave the event that touch of class. Here it is
Sunday afternoon, and I have received many congratulations on a really great
affair.
I would like to thank everyone who participated, from the committee, those who
attended, and especially those businesses who donated the door prizes. Just how
successful was the dinner, you might ask? Well let me say, that we probably made
back what we donated to the parish building fund and to SWAT last month. Need I
say more? Again, let me say a special thank you to all of you who donated your
time and talents for a very special event.
STATE
RAFFLE:
Have you purchased any State raffle tickets yet? If not, please do so. Remember
that the council realizes one-half of the purchase price of each ticket sold.
Last year the council sold a total of 83 tickets. This year we got off to a
great start. As of this writing, we have sold 73 tickets. There is still plenty
of time left. We received a total of three hundred and fifty tickets from the
state. This is a no brainer! We sell the tickets and get to keep half the money.
AD
BOOKS:
Brother Paul Mitchell is doing a terrific job in selling the new addition of the
ad books. I know he has been fighting a lot of competition especially with sale
of dinner tickets, state raffle tickets, and signups for the race, but now it’s
time to get behind this project and make it as successful as our other fund
raisers. Many people have asked us to sell these books again. Ask those you sold
books to in the past to purchase the new rendition.
KNIGHT
OF THE
MONTH:
This particular member does his thing very quietly. He doesn’t ask for
recognition for the many things he does for the council or the parish in
general. He has stepped up to chair the bingo committee, he publishes the new
and improved newsletter, administers the council and parish web sites, and with
all his added duties, he is still our master dishwasher. It is indeed an honor
to name Tim Vogel, Knight of the month for March.
FISH
FRY:
Due to popular demand, we will be holding two fish fries. Mark your calendars
for March 26 and April 2. Gary Tadvick has agreed to chair this activity. Give
him a call if you can help out.
TWENTY-FIFTH
ANNIVERSARY
It’s not too early to start thinking about our twenty-fifth anniversary. That’s
right, we will be in existence twenty-five years this coming Columbian year. I
know we are going to have to do something special. I have some ideas, are you
with me?
NOMINATION
OF
OFFICERS
During the April business meeting the council will be entertaining nominations
for officers for the new Columbian year. Please make a special effort to be at
the meeting to express your comments. We all need your input. The council’s
future depends on your commitment to nominate and vote for those members who
will lead us next year and into the future. Several members who have been
working for many years in supporting the council and our many charitable
projects are getting older and need to pass the baton, some are even getting
ready to collect social security. Think about helping out by becoming an
officer, or chairing a committee.
IN
OUR PRAYERS
During this past week I was advised that George Baily, a charter member of this
council is suffering from congenital heart failure. I have asked brother Ted
Benell to interact with the family so that we can be in a position to render any
assistance that may be necessary. Please remember George in your prayers. In
addition, we have been asked to remember Marion Reilly and Paul Cunningham in
our prayers. It certainly was nice to see Brother Amedee Norvez at our last
business meeting and at the St. Patrick’s Day Dinner. Amedee is getting around
with the assistance of a cane. He assures me that this is only for the short
term. When passing his house the other day, I saw him out working in the garden.
He is on the mend.
