FROM THE GRAND KNIGHT I want to take this opportunity to extend to Laurel and Dave
Koenders the sympathy of the entire Council on the loss of their 10 year
old granddaughter, Megan Taylor Koenders on Friday, the 22d. Megan’s
loss is heart-shattering to Laurel and Dave, their son Brent, his wife
Shannon and their Megan’s sister, Kirstin. At this time, I’m not sure of
the cause of death except that it was totally unexpected after Megan
experienced flu-like symptoms earlier. Megan’s funeral was conducted on
Tuesday, February 27.
The Connelly Springs, NC community has already banded together with the
thought of creating a memorial to Megan. Plans are to build a playground
at Megan’s school in her honor. I have had initial talks with some of
our Council officers and we have decided that our Council will
participate to help make the memorial a reality.
Laurel and Dave have made so many contributions to our Council and to
St. Therese that this is the least we can do. We will discuss the
Council’s participation in this during an upcoming meeting. Perhaps,
you, as individual members, will want to contribute on a personal level
to help this memorial come to fruition.
Cards can be sent to Dave and Laurel at their home address :
160 Fern Brook Drive, Mooresville, NC 28117
None of us can understand God’s will in this case. But, because of our
faith, and our knowledge that all of us will be re-united with our loved
ones, we go on, trusting that God’s will is for the best. I refer each
of you back to your First Degree initiation when the Deputy Grand Knight
reminded you that “death is not voluntary, we know not when, or where or
how”. But, in our human weakness, when He calls a beautiful child from
our midst, we must ask “why”.
To Laurel, Dave and your whole family, our deepest sympathy. You are in
our thoughts and prayers.
FINAL LAMB REPORT Mark Daly reported that last year’s LAMB collections totaled $10,629
against our assigned $9,566 goal. Checks were delivered to LifeSpan,
Mooresville High School, Parkview Elementary, Mooresville Intermediate
and Shepherd’s Fold for use in their individual program of serving the
mentally challenged. Thanks to the 47 Knights, three wives and the
Confirmandi who donned the aprons, helping collect the money.
MARCH HAPPENINGS
First of all, we will be continuing with our Friday night fish-fry
during Lent. The first two were very successful and Vince Greco and his
crew appreciate the great turnout from the parish. We’re offering
french-fried and baked fish, hush puppies, french-fried and baked
potatoes plus pasta if so desired. Ice-cream was also offered at fifty
cents in addition to the $7 dinner cost.
Needed to make these Friday nights more successful is more participation
from Council members and their wives. We’re in need especially of about
three people on Saturday mornings to do final clean-up. Contact Vince at
704/662-3930 or
vinfran@windstream.com to sign up to help.

Second and Third Degree initiations will take place on Saturday morning,
March 10 at St. Luke’s in Mint Hill. If you’re a First Degree, this is
your opportunity to take additional steps on your road to full
Knighthood. Second Degree candidates are expected to arrive at eight.
Third Degree candidates should plan to arrive no later than 10:45.
Questions? Call or e-mail Ed Kane at 704/799-9575 (eakane@roadrunner.com)
Mark your calendars for the KofC Blood Drive, also on March 10. Clayton
Brown is looking for a lot of Knights to show up with their sleeves
rolled up, ready to donate to help save a life. This is being conducted
with the American Red Cross. If you missed the earlier sign-ups, show up
– they’ll fit you in, or call Clayton to volunteer for an
appointment slot.

To help celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, we’ll be joining with the Parish
for a March 16th dinner. Keep an eye on the bulletin for details.
On March 24, following the 5:30 Mass, the Council will be offering a
roast beef dinner in recognition of the 125th anniversary of the KofC
founding. The whole parish is invited to this family event. Cost will be
$10 each, or $25 for a family.
MEMBERSHIP Steve Weis, our Financial Secretary, reported during the February 26
meeting that our membership now includes157 active members. However,
we’re on the lookout for additional members, so if you know someone who
could be a Knight, ask them! We’ve got plenty of form 100s just waiting
to be filled out.
SQUIRES 16 young men of the parish have signed up in the Squires program.
This is the program, conducted under the auspices of the Knights, that
is designed to help young people form a basis for a strong Christian
life. Many squires, upon reaching the age of 18, transfer into the
Knights. Stewart McLamb is heading up the Squires. If you’d like to help
him, working with these future Knights, give him a call at 704/902-9456,
or e-mail him at
stewartm@corencorp.com. They meet on Sunday afternoon, 4-5.
GOLF
The Council will again sponsor a hole at the annual Mooresville Health
Clinic Golf Tournament. Vince and Fran Greco are spearheading this event
with fellow parishioners Connie and Jim Evans. The event will be held at
the River Run Country Club on April 25. Wanna play? Contact Vince.
RELAY FOR LIFE The Relay for Life will receive a $500 contribution from the
Council. We supported this charity last year in its continuing fight
against cancer.
