Sad news from Iraq

Richard Goward, nephew of Clayton and Dorothy Brown, was killed in Iraq last week. It was not a combat fatality. Evidently he was driving a truck in a convoy during a sand storm when he struck the vehicle in front of his. He was the only National Guardsman to be killed thus far. Richard leaves behind a wife and two young daughters.

Elections 

Installation of Officers is scheduled for our May Social Meeting, Monday May 12th 7:30 pm, Wives are invited.

Treasurer’s Report

Checking account Balance $13,811.54 (about $8,000 of which is due for the adventure books. Savings Account Balance $30,599.31 (1/3rd is general fund money, and 2/3rd is building fund money).

WE STILL NEED HELP AT THE RACES

We are still signing up people to work the race at Lowe’ Motor Speedway. The most critical slots are Saturday 5/17 6pm-Midnight, Saturday 5/24 8am-1pm & 1pm-6pm, Sunday 5/25 8am-1pm & 1pm-9pm. John Carter and Ken Fusaro will be calling the members asking for help. Please do all you can to help.

State Convention News

Representatives for State Convention will be Ed Kane and Paul Mitchell. The council voted to give $200 to the Diocese of Charlotte Bishop’s Fund for their use related to Seminarians or Priests Retirement and $200 for the State Right-To-Life Fund. Both checks will be turned in at the convention. The council also voted to place a $125 ad in the convention booklet.

Building Fund Report

Building Fund Committee was formed with Bill Hannagan as Chairman and Paul Mitchell as Recorder. Members are Tom Joy, Ted Benell, Matt Reilly, Leigh Bullen, Dave Koenders, and Dave Smith.

Scholarship Fund

The Danielle and Mikayla Harper Memorial Scholarship for $500.00 will be awarded in July. Candidates will be a member or an immediate family member of a member in good standing of Knights of Columbus Council 7406. Selection will be based primarily on financial need and the student’s demonstration of academic excellence.

This scholarship is to help a student attending any advanced program of study requiring 24 months or longer.
