The month of June has certainly been a very
interesting one. From receiving much needed rain to preparing for the
upcoming Columbian year, we, as a council have a lot to be thankful
for. As I sit and reflect on the good times and the not so good times
of the past year, I can’t help but think about the passing of Betty
Butler and Brother Joe Callahan. I certainly hope you will remember
them in your prayers as well as those other family members who have
gone to their rest and are with Our Lord.
At all of our business meetings we take time to pray for those who are
sick and are in need. This past year we have certainly remembered a
number of people who have been suffering from serious illnesses.
Brother George Baily Jr., a charter member of our council is suffering
from congestive heart failure. George is at home. I have been asked to
request that council members stop by for a short visit. Others who are
in need of our prayers are Marion Reilly, Bill Pfeufer, Catherine
Vogel, and Sherry Hill, who is Ted Benell’s daughter. These
individuals are suffering from prolonged illnesses and should be
remembered in our daily prayers.
I have also been advised that Brother John Bigliardi has had major
surgery to his shoulder and will be out of action for at least three
months. Please keep John in your prayers.

Congratulations to our newly elected officers.
Remember that the officers are your representatives and need your
help. Please be available to assist the council and the officers by
volunteering to help on the various committees that are being formed.
We accomplished a lot this past Columbian year, but there is a lot
more that we need to work to be accomplished.
Installation of officers will be held at our regularly scheduled
social meeting, July 12, 2004 in the sanctuary. Unfortunately our
District Deputy, Bob Ladousier, will not be able to be present because
of a conflicting engagement, but the every ready Fred Meyer, of
District 20, has agreed to install our officers. Plan to attend the
installation and a social immediately following. All wives, family
members, and guests are invited to the installation and social.
BUDGET
The proposed budget was voted on and accepted with
only minor changes. With the exception of adding another $500.00
scholarship, the revenue and expenses are consistent with what we have
experienced over the last year. It was agreed that with the start of
Bingo, a separate budget should be prepared and introduced to the
membership for implementation. All revenue and expenses related to
Bingo will be reported separately. A finance committee has been formed
and will be responsible for all state and council reporting
requirements.
RACE
Brother Tom Joy reported that the finalized bill has
been sent to Lowe’s Motor Speedway. The gross revenue for all our
efforts was $14,496.00. The total man-hours expended for the May races
were 1,759. After distributing funds to other councils and St. Therese
Youth Ministries, our council will realize a net profit of $5,000.00.
As I have been saying, the more time our members can spend at these
fund-raising activities the more we can make for the council and
charitable organizations.
On another note, Brother Tom reported that he would not be able to
chair the race Committee in the future. It is time to pass the torch
to a younger member. Tom has expended many hours of his time in making
sure the race fundraisers have been successful. Is the job too much
for one person to handle? Should we divide the responsibilities among
several members? Any thoughts? I am sure that Tom will be available to
help form a committee to ensure that this fund-raiser remains a viable
source of revenue to the council.
Tom, on behalf of the entire council, I would like to thank you for
all your efforts in making our participation at the Lowe’s Motor
Speedway a successful one.
BINGO
Everything is falling into place. The equipment has
arrived. Training sessions have been scheduled and members are
learning how to run a bingo session. Supplies have been ordered. Even
the long awaited Bingo License has arrived. Have you signed up to
help? If not, please contact Brother Paul Mitchell. I am sure he will
be able to find a slot for you on one of the four teams we are
establishing. Remember it all starts on Thursday, August 5. Visit the
website for updates.

FESTIVAL OF THE AMERICAS
The date is Saturday, August 21. This is our council’s
effort to bring the Spanish-speaking members into a full communion
with the rest of the parish. We can all learn about the culture and
partake in the local cuisine of the countries represented by our
Spanish-speaking brothers and sisters. There will also be singing and
dancing. Our commitment will be to assist where needed. Certainly we
will participate in the setup and tear down, as well as helping out in
the kitchen. If you can help out, please give Brother Paul Mitchell a
call.
SAINT THERESE FESTIVAL
Plans are being formulated for the Saint Therese
festival that will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2004. We have been
asked to participate. This year the Fourth Degree will be present in
full regalia for the procession and attendance at the Mass. At the
conclusion of Mass, the council will host our annual spaghetti and
meatball dinner. The dinner last year was a tremendous success. If you
remember, we didn’t anticipate the number of people who actually
attended. People raved about the food and wanted to know when we were
going to have another dinner. Well, the date and time are set. We have
made arrangements with Rusty the DJ from the Saint Patrick’s Dinner to
be on hand, so we know it will be a lively evening. Plan to be in
attendance for the Saint Therese Festival, the Mass, and conclude the
day with a great evening of food and entertainment.
Bread from New Jersey, anyone?
DEGREES
Are you a Third Degree member of the Order? If not,
remember the council will be hosting a Second and Third Degree
exemplification on Saturday, November 6. This will be a great
opportunity to make the degrees. In addition, as we start our new
Columbian year, it will be a great time to bring new members into the
council. What an opportunity to have new members make all three
degrees at our home council. It promises to be a wonderful day. The
degrees will be followed by a great luncheon that will be served by
our crack kitchen staff. If you can help out on the day of the
degrees, please call Matt Reilly.
In closing, I would like to ask all of you to comment on the
newsletter. Is there anything you would like to see included? Within
the next few months we hope to add a column from the Chaplain, as well
as a calendar of parish events. If room permits, we will also be
adding photos of events.
Some of the most recent changes have included new paper stock, and
color. We have received a lot of good comments. Evidently one of our
copies fell into the hands of State Advocate Dave Jones. He commented
that he enjoyed reading the newsletter and wondered why copies are not
mailed to all the State Officers. Well Worthy State Advocate, the
problem has been solved. As of this issue, all State Officers have
been placed on the mailing list. On behalf of all the members of
Council #7406, we hope you enjoy our publication.
IN OUR PRAYERS
A special reminder, the Council holds Rosary Devotion
prior to our regularly scheduled business meetings on the fourth
Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. It is during this
adoration of the Blessed Mother that we especially remember the sick
and deceased whose names are placed in petition.
Let us keep George Baily Jr, Marion Reilly, Catherine Vogel, Sherry
Hill, Bill Pfeufer, John Bigliardi, and Pam Cotter in our prayers.
