LAMB
The Council received an award from State Supreme for
surpassing its 2006 LAMB quota by 19 per cent. Total collected was
$10,915 versus $8,776 in 2005. Accepting the award on behalf of the
Council was Mark Daly, LAMB chairman.
The LAMB dates for 2007 will be announced next month.
FINANCES
Treasurer Greg Benjock distributed information during the June 4 meeting showing that the Council has a balance of $5,514 in its checking account and $56,310 in its investment plan. A discussion was held to determine if the $26,000 investment plan money that is currently in the money market should be transferred to other investment areas. The alternates will be examined by the trustees and a report will be made to the Council.
FUND RAISING
Although our checkbook and investment plan look relatively healthy, Treasurer Benjock brought to the Council’s attention that we are in need of new fund raising programs. Currently, we have no major methods to bring funds into the Council. To be paid out of our current checkbook balance are all contributions to various charitable causes, including $1,500 in scholarship money to be awarded to selected graduating high school seniors. Although brother Benjock has brought this problem to the attention of the Council before, no new ideas have come forth. He asked, again, if anyone has any ideas or thoughts on this subject, they bring it to his attention at 704/896-2812 or petjag@aol.com
NEW MEMBERS
A First Degree initiation was held on May 14 with six new brothers being accepted into the KofC. Joining the Council were: Richard Brooks, Philip Brown, Joseph Marusak, John O’Connor, Joseph Osipenko and Hank Schnepf. Welcome brothers – we look forward to helping you on your road to full Knighthood.
SECOND AND THIRD DEGREE
Initiation into the second and third degree will be held in Hickory on June 9. Anyone desiring to receive the degrees, is asked to contact Steve Wise at ‘(704) 664-9473 or PANTHERFAN40@JUNO.COM. Third degree Knights who would like to join the Hickory group can also contact Steve.
COUNCIL CHARITY
Continuing our practice of charity, the first principle of the KofC, our Council participated in, or will participate in the following:
June 16 – Red Cross Blood Drive. Sign-up after Masses on the preceding weekend. Call Clayton Brown (704/664-5693) or e-mail him dabohart@aol.com) for more information or to help out.
Relay for Life – held the first weekend of June, the event collected $154,000 to aid in the fight against cancer. Steward McLamb was one of the spearheads on this and he reported good support from 7406, including a $500 contribution from the Council.
LNCR, a Lake Norman group that provides homes and
medical care to children from beleaguered countries.
This year, the group had 47 children from Belarus and
Afghanistan visiting the lake area for eight weeks. Their farewell party will be held on July 29 at the Mooresville War Memorial Building. We’ll be contributing $375 to help cover costs. Last year, our "cooks" did most of the cooking, but this year LNCR has other BQers. However, any additional help would be appreciated. Contact Chris Baker fordetails at 704-383-2849 (e-mail at chrisgbaker@alltel.net) or just show up and ask for Kathy Barton.
THANK YOU
The family of Megan Koenders sent a photo of Megan and a thank-you note to
the Council in appreciation of its gift to the school ground memorial to be erected in Megan’s honor. Megan was the granddaughter of Sir David Koenders of our Council.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Sir Matt Reilly announced that two applications for the Council’s $500 scholarships have been received. One more scholarship is available to family members of Council members. Details and more information from Matt at 704/663-4011 or mandmr@aol.com. Matt has emphasized that the scholarships can be used for any post-high school education that is designed to advance the education of the recipient.
