As you see, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved.  Please make it a point to be at our next business meeting August, 27th.  We will have an Officers and Trustees meeting at 6:30 with the business meeting starting promptly at 7:30.  All Council members are invited to attend the Officers and Trustees meeting where discussions on all topics take place. Contact our Directors listed elsewhere in this month’s Knightline, find out how you can be of help and let them know when and where you can be of service. If you need any additional information or would like to add your input to Council activities, please come to our next business meeting on the 27th of this month. If you haven’t been a regular attendee at our meetings, please know you’re always welcome. Our social meeting is the second Monday of each month; the business meeting is the fourth Monday.

Brothers, you may have heard that Paul Fabio passed away July 20.  He is survived by his wife Nan, four sons and their families.  Please keep Brother Paul and his family in your prayers.

KofC History

In the early1880s, “Charity “ and “Unity” are chosen as the Order’s founding principles. “Fraternity” is added in 1885 and “Patriotism” in 1900.

Council Directors

Grand Knight Gary Tadvick announced the following Knights will be working as directors of various functions during the coming year:

Fund Raising

You’ll note that there is no one listed as head of our Fund Raising Committee. As stressed in previous Knightlines, and in Council meetings, it is imperative that we find new fund raising activities. A Chairman for the Committee is the first step. Volunteers can contact the Grand Knight at 704/663-6454 or garytadvick@redblue.com for more information.

Social Activities

A spaghetti dinner is being planned for October in conjunction with Faith Formation. There’s a possibility that we’ll be able to have a professional comedian booked for the evening. Faith Formation will pick-up his fee.

A dinner/dance is also being planned for October. Still in its planning stages, the evening will give the Knights and their ladies a chance to socialize while enjoying great food and romantic music. As plans develop, the Council will be kept informed through Knightline and upcoming meetings.

On July 29, our Council combined with the ladies’ SWAT team to host a luncheon for all St. Therese parishioners who had celebrated their 80th birthday. A good time was had by all.

Policy Change

Effective immediately, it will be the responsibility of each committee chairman to submit a report after each Council event. The report is to underscore how the event went, attendance, general comments and any problems incurred. This feedback will be made to the Grand Knight and shared with the Council. It is hoped that such a report will help in the performance and efficiency of future events.

Patriots’ Festival

Chris Baker reported that the festival plans are smoothly moving forward. A number of organizations have committed to taking part in the festival, planned for downtown Mooresville on November 10. Publicity is starting to appear and, according to Baker, thousands of people are expected to attend. Designed to honor all veterans, the all-day affair has been promised special activities by the U. S. Marine Corps, which will be celebrating its 230th birthday.

Brother Baker also noted that to make this event happen, and for it to be a success, he and his team will need the help of every one of our Council’s members. Put aside the date – November 10 to honor our veterans and help your Council.

Membership

Sir Matt Reilly, in his continuing membership work, discussed the need for recruitment of new Knights and the retention of existing members. He suggested that personal phone calls be made to all of the dues-paying, but inactive Knights who are being carried on our membership list. He asked for help from the Knights present for their help in making the calls.

Insurance

Our new insurance Field Agent, Sir Ed Kane talked briefly about the Knights’ insurance plan. He outlined some of the various policies offered by the KofC. These include protection for members and their entire family. One of today’s most popular plans is the Knights’ Long Term Care policy. Rated as one of the best available, it is also the most competitive. More details can be obtained from Ed at 704/799-9575 or through his e-mail eakane@adelphia.net.

Our Field Agent also reminded the Council that each of us enjoys free life insurance as members of the Knights. The coverage ranges from $1,000 to $2,500 depending on the individual’s age and length of time as a Knight.

Brother Kane also noted that he is requesting that the Council give financial and prayerful support to Rich Worthington, currently studying for the priesthood at St. Charles Borromeo in Philadelphia.

2007 Scholarships

One $500 scholarship application has been submitted to the Council. One more is available. All graduating seniors whose fathers are active Knights are eligible for the scholarship. Applications are available through the Grand Knight.

Meeting Place Change

Effective immediately, all of our bi-monthly meetings will be held in the “family room” in the church building.
