As I sit here at my computer, I can't help but to think of the accomplishments we, as a council, have made during the month of October.
MEMBERSHIP
Certainly, we should be proud of the fact that we have received Form 100s from four candidates, and transfers from several others. Hopefully, we will be conducting our second first-degree exemplification of the Columbian year within the next month. I have received word from the office that several men expressed interest in the Knights when they filled out the Stewardship Commitment Forms. As soon as we obtain the necessary information, our stellar membership committee will make contact with the prospective candidates. I would like to congratulate John Bigliardi and Noel Nadol for making the Forth Degree on Saturday October 18 in Charlotte. A total of one hundred and ninety seven candidates made the degree. We as a council should feel very proud because Brother Dave Koenders is a member of the degree team, and his efforts reflect the true meaning of Patriotism.
ST. THERESE FESTIVAL
On Saturday, October 4, members of the council prepared hot dogs and hamburgers for those attending the festival. It was a great success, because we sold out of virtually everything. This was not a fund-raiser for us. We only assisted the Stewardship Committee by cooking and serving.
SPAGHETTI DINNER
After all the preparations and selling tickets, I'm very pleased to report that the spaghetti dinner was a tremendous success. A special thanks to Brother Bill Muccio and his crew for all their work in making this event one that will be talked about for months to come. Many of the people (over two hundred) wanted to know when our next event would be taking place.
KNIGHT OF THE MONTH
This program should hold a special meaning for all of us. There are many members of our council who give a great deal of their time and talents so that the parish and the council receive many benefits. One way we can acknowledge these individuals is by honoring them as Knights of the Month. One of my first duties as your Grand Knight was to present the Knight of the Month award to Leigh Bullen for July. We have recently received a supply of certificates, and it is my honor with the advice and consent of the Board of Trustees, to present Jim Richart recipient for August, Frank Schaefer recipient for September, and Tom Joy recipient for October. The recipient for November has not been named, but I have a strong suspicion that it will be------------. I plan to make the presentations of the awards at our Holiday Party in December. The Knights of Columbus recognize that the family is the single most important thing in our lives. It is important that we honor and acknowledge the families that have made a difference in the parish, the council, and in the lives of those with whom they have contact. We will present our first Family of the Month award to Tom and Joan Joy, who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. In addition, they are both Hospitality Ministers and participate in many Parish activities. Tom also co-chairs the Race Committee and helps your Grand Knight with the budget.
OCTOBER RACE
Brothers Dave Smith and Tom Joy delivered again. With the help of many council members, it appears that the council will realize a profit of $3,500.00. It is a lot of work, but in the end it is really worth all the effort. Now that we all know that the proper insurance is in place, maybe we can get more members to participate in May.
UP-COMING EVENTS
On Friday November 7, will start a major construction project in the Rectory. The kitchen will be completely gutted and re-done. Tear out will start on Friday and be completed Saturday. On Monday, November 10 the new floor will be installed. Painting of the kitchen, dining room, living room, and hallways will follow. The new cabinets and appliances will be installed as soon as practical. The schedule requires that all work be completed one week prior to Thanksgiving. This project will not cost the council any money. We have been asked to donate our time. We could use all the help we can get. Please call me if you can give some of your time for this project.
Saturday November 15, we will be working at the S.W.A.T. Bazaar. We will be cooking and serving breakfast and lunch. This event is a fund-raiser for the Knights. Your help would be greatly appreciated. We will also be selling Christmas Cards.
NOVEMBER MEETINGS
At our last meeting, it was decided that we would have only one meeting during November. After thinking about it, and quite honestly remembering that we are to receive the traveling gavel on November 24, I have scheduled a meeting for that evening. Nothing has changed with regard to the agenda for November 10. We will still get the report from the building committee and have discussions. We will also discuss Operation Lamb. REMEMBER there will be a meeting on Monday November 24. Please make every attempt to be at this meeting to receive the traveling gavel from Statesville.
HOLIDAY PARADE
On Tuesday, November 25, the Council will be participating in the Mooresville Holiday Parade. We should be getting all the information from the parade committee by November 10. I have asked our Priests to walk with us. The Fourth Degree will be in attendance in Regalia. Third degree members will also be in attendance. This is our first chance in a long time to be in the public eye. Let's let everyone know who we really are. It's a great opportunity, let's make the best of it.
YOUTH PROJECT
Are you handy with wood working? If so, Brother Bob Wessmiller could use some extra hands. Bob brought a sampling of his handy work to the last meeting. It was a wooden fire truck. A masterpiece. It is my understanding that the finished pieces are given to the needy and to children who are in the hospital. What a great way to help out and still have credit for a Youth Project. Get in touch Bob, if you can help.
IN OUR PRAYERS
We have been asked to keep the following in our prayers:
Repose of the Souls of Mike Dorian, Council 39, and Steve Stowe's niece. For the speedy recoveries of: William Reilly, Marion Reilly, Susie Kelly, Paul Cunningham, Edith Matson, and Bunny Muccio. Let us all keep our new Bishop Peter in our prayers that he may be a truly great spiritual leader for the Diocese of Charlotte.
