September is past and the month leaves us with some great memories of Knights practicing act after act of charity, the greatest of all virtues and crowning glory of a Christian life.

Our Council acted as host for a second and third Degree exemplification on September 23. A contingent of our members was there to do set up, cook and help in so many ways. Giving up the major part of an Autumn Saturday is not the easiest thing to do, but our guys were there out of their charity and their love of our fraternal brotherhood. My personal thanks to each of those brothers who gave of their time to make the exemplification so meaningful to those who took their advanced degrees.

And then, while all of that was going on at church, other brother-volunteers were soliciting LAMB funds at Harris-Teeter, Lowes Food Stores and Wal-Mart. With all of this charitable work going on, it was probably pretty hard to find a Knight at home on Saturday.

Then, during the next weekend, we continued our LAMB solicitation.

To those Knights who worked on the two LAMB three-day weekends, my personal thanks to each of you for helping care for the “Least Among My Brethren”.

September went out with a real “bang” for our Council as Knights worked with other parish volunteers to make the Parish Picnic a rousing success. The food as prepared by the Knights was great and the SWAT ladies complemented our efforts with their offerings of “pot-luck” and fantastic desserts.

When I look at the Council activities during the last two weekends of September, I count my blessings on being associated with this Council. St. Therese is blessed to have so many outgoing Knights and their families, who give so freely of their time. I am personally blessed as Grand Knight for having so much support from my brother Knights who make my job so rewarding.

EXEMPLIFICATIONS

PARISH PICNIC

A great time was had by all. We don’t have the number of parishioners who attended, but considering how the Council cooked food disappeared, it was awfully good, or there were a lot of people there.
Thanks to all the Knights who gave up their time to make the picnic a success. And, if you weren’t aware of it, the Council donated $1,000 to pay for all the food. The ladies of the parish, especially SWAT, kicked in with desserts and side dishes.

LAMB

Mark Daly, LAMB Director, reports that we had another successful program the last two weeks of September. He reports that a total of $9,280.62 was collected to help the mentally challenged of Mooresville and Iredell County. We’re a little short of our assigned goal of $9566.43, but late checks that usually come in will undoubtedly put us over the top.

Helping us this year were members of the Confirmandi class, staff members of LifeSpan and the Special Ed teacher of Mooresville High School.

Thanks to all the Council members who gave so freely of their time during this very important Council function. Thanks, too, to Wal-Mart, Lowes Food Store and Harris Teeter for allowing us to solicit outside their Mooresville locations.

FUND RAISING

Ken Fusaro, Grand Knight and Treasurer Greg Benjock report that 258 discount books have been sold to date. The books, selling for $20, contain coupons that are worth over $2,400 at restaurants and retailers in the Mooresville area. As the Grand Knight pointed out, the true value of the book sales is that each book nets the Council $10. Consequently, the sale of the books has brought $2,580 into the Council’s treasury.

Leading book seller so far is Vince Greco who has sold 123 of the books. Vince says everyone is a potential buyer – you just have to ask people to look over the book and its value makes it an easy sale.

Books are available from the Grand Knight, the Treasurer, Ed Kane and several other Knights.

Our Pumpkin Sale begins on October 8 and continues until October 29. Sales area will be on church property by the rear parking area. Chris Baker is currently looking for volunteers to help with the sale of the pumpkins that will sell for $5 and up, depending on size.

Although some retailers are already selling Halloween pumpkins, the highest sales are during the second and third weeks of October, according to local pumpkin growers and farms. With our sales beginning on Sunday, the eighth, we’ll be selling during the prime selling period, according to Baker.

Brother Baker notes that some retailers will be selling for less than us, but he emphasizes that because all of our proceeds will go to charity, many people will be willing to pay a dollar or two more. All money made on the sale of the pumpkins will be used to fund the Council’s various charitable works, plus direct contributions to the parish.
